Our Mission

Opened in 2011 as a ministry outreach, in cooperation with the India Christian Mission, Open Door Mercy Home’s purpose is to provide orphaned and abandoned Indian children of Eluru with a loving, nurturing home environment with access to an adequate education. The orphanage will make every attempt to meet the orphaned children’s basic food, clothing, and shelter needs while simultaneously teaching Bible fundamentals.

Open Door Mercy Home is a fully non-profit orphanage operated in conjunction with the India Christian Mission. The orphanage relies on donations and support from volunteers and workers to keep changing the lives of Indian children. Find out how you can help our orphans and support our mission.

History of India Christian Mission & Open Door Mercy Home

India Christian Mission (ICM) was formed by the late lamented Rev. Arthur Stephen Paynter of Bicester, Oxfordshore, England on November 1st of 1897. For a generation, ICM spread the love of Jesus to the rural masses of India. By the mid-twentieth century the original financial support, which had started with a commitment made by Rev. Paynter, began to dwindle and the numerous buildings within the diocese began to decay. With limited funding the religious leaders of ICM worked diligently to meet the needs of its growing congregations. However, by the twenty-first century many of the buildings had become unfit for service. The result was a conglomeration of villages without buildings for worshiping our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In 2000, the India Christian Mission was granted autonomy. The existing mission in Sri Lanka, US, England, Canada, Switzerland and the other new mission parts in India, formed after March 2000. Currently, Rev. Dr. John SDR Nakka is the bishop of the church. The church has two dioceses: the Diocese of Krishna Godavary and the Missionary Diocese of Eluru.

The ICM Church, in India, currently supports 181 congregations, twenty-six primary schools, two secondary schools, one tailoring and embroidery school for women, one computer literacy project, and one theological seminary college. The church also creates a regular television program named AARAADHANA (meaning “worship”) and a Healing Festival held on Saturdays.

In August of 2011, missionaries from America (through the generous support of donations from Open Door Church and the abundant grace of God) were able to found Open Door Mercy Home in collaboration with ICM. The orphanage is situated on the grounds of the India Christian Mission compound, with the purpose of reaching the lost and outcast children of Eluru, India. ICM staff workers and the honorable Bishop John Nakka work tirelessly to maintain a safe, stable, and scripture-based environment. The primary goal for ODMH is to rescue needy children from the clutches of anguish by teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and modeling faithful living.
