Papa’s favorite school subject is English. She aims to be a nurse so that she can make sick people, like her mom, feel better. Papa’s favorite Bible story is “The Full Net” (Mathew 13:47-48). Stella is an extremely bright twelve-year-old. She excels in school and enjoys science class the most. She plans to use her love for learning in a career as a teacher. Stella’s father, the victim of a medical misdiagnosis, passed away several years ago. Her mother, choosing not to remarry after the loss of her beloved husband, found it very difficult to support Stella alone. Jyothi is a seven year old doll. She has striking natural beauty. When given a reason, she has one of the most beautiful smiles. In play, she can be seen skipping and playing nurse – a skill she hopes to someday have as a career. Both Jyothi and her sister, Swathi, suffered greatly after the heart attack and death of their father. Their mother, trying her best, could not raise enough money to support the three of them. She brought the girls to the orphanage in hopes that they might have a better life. Jyothi’s favorite Bible story is “The Good Samaritan” (Luke 10:30-37). Keerthi is a new addition to Open Door Mercy Home. She joined the family on 10/10/11. She came to the home after her mother, attempting to raise her alone, realized that she was unable to provide her daughter with the care she deserved. Her father, leaving years before, has failed to offer any contact or support. The family is unsure if he is dead or alive. Keerthi’s favorite school subject is math. She enjoys skipping and running. Divya is very new to the orphanage. She was brought to ODMH on September 23, 2011 after some unfortunate incidents left she and her brother alone. Divya’s father was a drunkard and committed a murder for which he was consequentially imprisoned. Divya’s mother, confident that the father would not return, decided to abandon the children by leaving them with their grandfather and not returning. The grandfather, unable or unwilling to support the children determined that life at the orphanage would be much better for both of the siblings. Divya is a beautiful, loving nine year old girl. Indian society considers Divya to be untouchable.
